Designing for gobos is a very different process from designing for printed materials. The following is a brief guide for you to understand how gobos are designed from the first layout on the screen to the last step of logo design on the glass.

1. Creating a custom gobo

Unique patterns such as argyles, polka dots, stripes, abstract, fire & ice, water & sky are designs that consistently execute well. We have the ability to design a variety of different custom gobos. To ensure that
designs like these made well, we have several tips.

1.1 Right gobo size

In repeating patterns, it’s important to pay attention to choose the right gobo size. Keep in mind the custom gobo when projection. Too big, the image will become dim. Too small, the design will not render legibly on the projection place.

Usually, we offer two gobo types: Glass Gobos, and Metal Gobos. Custom gobo made with your own artwork design.

1.2 Colors

The number of colors used in design will affect the execution of the gobos. The general rule is to use no more than 4 colors in a gobo design. Generally speaking, the more complex designs execute better when fewer colors are used.

2. Choose The Material

Glass gobos allow you to use black/white & color images with grayscale details. The finest details can be made with glass gobos.

3. Logos or Text

Certain logos execute better than others when design. Complex artwork, color overlays, and gradients are very difficult to achieve and are generally best applied to custom gobo. Because of the fixed size of glass gobo, bold and simple shapes are typically best for gobo designs.

Final Step: Transferring a design to a production file

Creating a ready file typically involves transferring a vector design or otherwise into a production sized bitmap image, which will be done by our skilled programming team. Our professional technicians use this file to program on the gobo machine to transpose each individual pixel in the file to an artwork on the glass.
Once your design is finished, we will review it to ensure it meets the required technical specifications. Also, we will suggest any changes if necessary to make sure it will be the best gobos it can be.
