Today would like to share Baykal gobo projector light for Museums.
1. Museum orientation and categorization
In terms of museum classification, the museum belongs to the history category.
However, as a prefecture-level museum in Shandong Province, the owner has a unique plan to create its strengths and features – the museum is a museum of history.
Positioned as the first museum of this theme in China with the East Yii culture! In order to stand out among the local museums!
What are the connotations of Dongyi culture?
In the Zhou Dynasty, the term “Dongyi” was used as a generic term for the non-Chinese people of the East. From the Hou Li Culture (8,300 years ago), the culture has passed through the Beixin Culture (7,300 years ago), the Dawunkou Culture (6,500 years ago), the Longshan Culture (4,500 years ago), and the Yue Shi Culture (3,900 years ago), all of which were created by the Dongyi.
The Dongyi people created a splendid culture, they first invented the bow and arrow and excelled at archery.
From the worship of bird totems to various crafts, building techniques, the creation of writing, the creation of gossip, and the creation of a medicine.
To the emergence of rituals, the differentiation of settlements and cities, and even the formation of early states, all played a significant and far-reaching impact on Chinese culture.
2. Setting the lighting tone
Once we understood what it entailed, we consulted with the owner, architect and interior designer to determine the basic requirements.
The Museum of Dongyi Culture is the first museum in China to exhibit the full range of Dongyi culture.
The historical lineage of the Dongyi culture is clearly presented through the display of cultural relics.
Vivid reproduction of the production life of the ancestors of the Dongyi people through sound and light.
Promote the profound civilizational achievements of Dongyi culture through academic reports, cultural forums, and
other activities.
The museum has eight exhibition halls and two cinemas: the History of Dongyi Culture from Prehistoric Times to Before Qin Dynasty, Archaeology, Customs, Agriculture, Handicraft, Handicraft, Society, and Integration Hall.
The theatre and prologue are on the minus level, the prologue has a glass roof, which brings in natural light, and the central hall is connected to the prologue, which also has partial natural light.
On the first floor, there are two exhibition halls with additional experiential and interactive areas, which are frequented by more children.
In order to fully express the characteristics of the Eastern Yi culture, the museum through the entire interior space, involving the first floor of the prologue, the central hall and the prologue access to the wall, and the second floor of the four groups of relief carvings, a total of 19 images, the subject matter is mainly based on the worship of bird totems, a variety of handicrafts, the development of construction techniques, the creation of writing, gossip creation, primitive calendar, medical creation, the emergence of rituals, the settlement, and urban differentiation and even the formation of the early state. The elements, to show the glorious history of the influence of Yi culture on Chinese culture as the goal, condensing the theme of the Dong Yi culture, to enhance the cultural atmosphere of the museum, allowing visitors to visit the museum at the same time can feel the splendid Dong Yi civilization 6,000 years ago.
In response to these features, we set the tone when considering the lighting design.
In addition, since the entire scene is permeated with relief sculptures characterized by the Eastern Yi culture.

The lighting approach to the reliefs was handled through several approaches.
1: Wall washing + accent lighting, evenly distributing light to the sculpture through wall washing, then accent lighting to create shadows and light, highlighting the three-dimensionality.
2: Cut-lighting, small sculptures, highlighting the sculptures by the strong contrast of light and dark from the GOBO lights.
3: Wiping wall lighting: For sculptures with large height and strong three-dimensional feeling on the surface, wiping wall lighting is used to express the scene and three-dimensional feeling.
Considering energy-saving, sensor control, etc., the whole museum uses LED professional museum lighting.
3. Lighting and sizing
By comparing professional museum brand lamps and lighting fixtures, you can determine the type of lighting fixtures and the specific selection by referring to the effect and quotation.
Key lighting fixtures

Various accessories are available to adjust the light shape to suit the lighting needs of different exhibits.

4. Simulation tests
The design was complicated by the large difference in floor heights of each space, and included large relief sculptures and scene restoration. Before starting the design, we will carry out measurements and lighting tests on some scenes.

After the site survey, basic lighting and simulation (3D modeling, importing IES files of the lighting fixtures, and trial calculations of illumination) were performed.

5.Addressing the five difficult issues
1: Large façade sculptural treatment
The more difficult part of the museum to deal with is the elevation relief in the central hall, which is 12 meters high and 2 meters wide, rather troublesome!
At first, we considered treating the sculpture with a large wattage wall wash, but since the sculpture was flat and too tall, it was difficult to wash evenly.
Also, with a large wash, the non-sculptural walls would also be illuminated and would make the reliefs appear too flat. After much testing, it was decided to use two sets of lights: one to wash the wall and play light on the upper part of the sculpture, and the other to project light on the lower part of the sculpture.
2: Integration of natural and artificial light
For the first problem, we did not use a similar treatment for the narthex reliefs. Since the reliefs in the narthex are far away from the audience’s browsing, two sets of lights would not create glare. The prologue is a very crowded area, especially when the small theater is closed, and multiple sets of lights would cause a lot of glare. After testing and simulation, we adopted a group of lights, the configuration of the pulling lens, shading fan leaves, and other treatments.
In order to highlight the three-dimensional sculpture, we added some small angles of oblique lighting to take into account the natural diffuse light.
For the second problem, we have designed a control system with a light detector. At illumination levels above 300 lx, the natural light becomes stronger and the lights become stronger, and above 1000 lx, all the lights are turned off. When the illumination is below 300lx, the natural light becomes weak and the light becomes strong.
6. According to the budget, adjust the light configuration, complete the lighting diagram
When it comes to actually run a project, you have to deal with budget issues. Cost overruns are the norm.
With lighting at the last minute of the overall project, the previous project had already squeezed out most of the cost. We encountered the same pressures in this project and, after much coordination, we made the following adjustments.
1: Part of the exhibits fixed space, using downlight instead of track light
2: Exhibits and placement of the space are well defined, non-dimmable lamps instead of dimmable lamps.
7. Communicate with multimedia, scene restoration, and other related personnel to handle control continuity issues.
1: The project has two theatres, with multimedia and lighting designed as follows.
(1) Audience area design base lighting, average illumination 30-50lx, aisle 150lx
(2) Configure the circuit dimming lamps, and confirm the control interface with the multimedia. Lighting and multimedia linkage
2: Scene restoration also has some projection, using similar methods, but the ambient illumination is not the same.
3: The entire lighting control and weak power system engineer interface, the lighting control into the overall control (such as air conditioning, multimedia, curtain switch, etc.)
8. Guidance on lighting adjustments
The project completed the design, into the construction phase, coordination work, in fact, a lot, site anomalies, changes caused quite a lot of commissioning work.
Such as the original exhibits changed, interior design a detailed adjustment.
On-site luminaries need to make temporary adjustments to light levels, beam angles, etc.

Without this patient and meticulous work, it is difficult to meet the requirements.
9. Technical specifications.
Upon completion of the project, a technical presentation is made, including the following information.
1、Lighting design scheme
2、Light installation large sample drawing
3、Control system diagram
4、Product parameters of lamps and lanterns
5、Control device technical parameters
6、Product certifications, certificates, etc.
7、Installation and maintenance operating instructions
